A passion for giving back. I believe there is no better way to spend my life than to help others create celebrations that are memorable, personalized and extraordinary. I have a strong passion for promoting the quality of life around the world through personal humanitarian initiatives and am a regular volunteer in my community through Carter Burden Network, City Meals on Wheels and Hole in the Wall Gang. In 2004 I took a one-year sabbatical to pursue volunteer work in Egypt, working for three different non-governmental organizations which focused on various community initiatives, including Water & Sanitation, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Arts & Crafts with children, and teaching English to both children and adults. In 2007, when I worked at the architecture firm Perkins+Will, I was chosen to be the New York Office’s Social Responsibility Leader. As the SRI Leader I was responsible for coordinating pro bono projects with Public Architecture’s 1% Solution initiative and organizing volunteer opportunities for employees. In 2008, Perkins+Will allowed me to take a four-month leave of absence in order to pursue a self-designed volunteer mission which I called G3. I focused on three different areas of human need in three different countries: Education in Guatemala, Health Care in Ghana, and Human Rights in the Republic of Georgia. All of these experiences have laid the foundation for my company’s mission: “An Event that Gives Back” When you hire Karen Brown New York, 5% of the planning fee for your event will go to a charity of your choice which means that you will be participating in “An Event that Gives Back”. In addition, Karen Brown New York is dedicated to providing planning services to one non-profit organization per year at no cost and is a volunteer for Wish Upon a Wedding, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that provides weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness and serious life altering circumstances.
